Victoria Peel Workshop

Victoria Peel Workshop

LOOKING FOR RHYTHM

Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May 2014

Workshop will be held at the Australis Retreat, Old Northern Road Wisemans Ferry NSW

Victoria Peel

In this workshop we will be looking at influences from artists such as Cezanne and Giacometti, who emphasized rhythms of line and tone within figuration. On Saturday we will work from an unclothed model and a still life inspired by Cezanne. Using black and white mediums of your choice participants will explore different methods to create an underlying unity of composition based on repetition and contrast of line. In the afternoon you will have time to develop an extended study exploring the tonal rhythms that link the composition. Working in acrylic paints using the limited palette of earth colours is optional.

On Sunday we will draw a partially clothed model, in relationship to an aspect of the still life, interior or exterior space. We will look at Giacometti and Vuillard’s paintings and the different methods in which they integrated the figure with the surrounding environment.

All levels of experience are welcome in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Victoria will work closely with each student and their preferred mediums and methods.

Victoria

As an exhibiting artist for over 35 years using both pastels and paint, I have been interested in exploring space, light and colour in both interiors and landscapes, with an emphasis on transforming images of the factual world to correspond to an interior reality. Having had 15 solo exhibitions in Sydney, Adelaide and St Albans, I have participated in group shows in Australia and overseas. For 12 years, until it closed in 2009 I exhibited in the St. Albans Gallery.

Twice a finalist in the Salon Des Refuses, last year I was Highly Commended in the Hawkesbury Art Prize 2013. My work can be seen at Artsite Gallery, Camperdown, where I will be participating in a pastel exhibition opening April 4, 2014.

My teaching experience in drawing and painting extends over 27 years, predominantly at the National Art School and College of Fine Arts, (University of NSW). I have also held a number of workshops at Wiseman’s Ferry, Bathurst and Sturt Winter School, Mittagong. I am presently employed as a casual drawing teacher at the Royal Art Society, Lavender Bay, Sydney.
